AOPL PT 29 ALKALI SWELLABLE ACRYLIC THICKENER
Introduction AOPL-T29 is a cross linked acrylic co-polymer. Upon addition of a base/alkali the diluted emulsion particles swell. Under these conditions the thickened emulsion clarifies and become highly viscous. These solutions of thickener are similar to solutions of natural gums of higher viscosity grades. The advantage over natural gums is that handling is much simpler as it is in liquid form. Solutions of this thickener suspend pigments and abrasives. AOPL –T29 is ideal for thickening various emulsions used in Textiles, Carpet, Paint and Leather industry.
Technical Data
Visual Appearance : White Milky Emulsion.
Solids : 28.5 % - 29.5 %
pH : 2– 4
Charge : Anionic
Solution Viscosity
1 % Sodium salt : 2000 cP. Minimum.
Salt preparation method: 1 % sodium salt: add 3.3 parts thickener and dilute with 95 parts of water and neutralize with 1.7 parts of 10 % NaOH
Note : 5 % solids level is the maximum concentration for working as above this the viscosity shoots up into an unworkable gel.
AOPL-T29 can readily thicken in the presence of ammonia or other alkali solutions at a ph of 7.5-8.0.
Application
AOPL-T29 can replace natural gums which are difficult to handle.
It is possible to introduce AOPL-T29 directly into the system to be thickened without pre neutralization.
Thickened Solutions of AOPL-T29 can effectively suspend pigments, abrasives and other fine particles.
Advantages
Conventional thickeners have a flocculating action whereas AOPL-T29 does not.
Useful for in situ thickening.
It can also replace partially kerosene usage.
Precautions
Always dilute with water before using.
