Penstock

Penstocks can be fabricated of many materials, but the strength and flexibility of steel and stainless steel penstocks make it best suited for the range of pressure fluctuations met in turbine operation. Steel and stainless steel penstocks should be constructed in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, VIII, Unfired Pressure Vessels.

Fabrication of penstocks requires a variety of special machines and equipment, such as rolls, presses, flame-cutting tools, welding machines, testing, radiographic, and handling equipment.
