Heat Treatment Salts and Chemicals

Meproche MN 660 : Working range 660° C to 890° C used as preheating salt for high speed tool steels, selective carbon steels and hot working steel prior to hardening with MEPROCHE 970.

Meproche MN 660 SPL : Working range 660° C to 930° C. Does not allow the formation of oxide film on the jobs. It is compatible with cynide and allows easier absorption of carbon.

Meproche MH 830 : Working range 830° C to 1100° C. Used for hardening of corrosion resisting steels, 2% carbon, 12% chromium tool steels and steels used for cutlery. Sometimes used as alternative to Meproche 970 or 1100 for hot working steels. Use of regenerator is recommended.

Meproche MH 970 : Working range 970° C to 1350° C. Used for heating the high speed and hot working steels to obtain the desired hardening temperature in the above working range. This salt avoids scaling as well as decarburisation of the steels. However certain types of above steels tend to decarburise during hardening in MH 970, resulting in a low surface hardness. Whenever this problem encountered, MH 971 should be used to prevent any decarburisation.

Meproche MH 971 : Working range 970° C to 1350° C. Used for hardening high speed steel and hot working steels with minimum amount of decarburisation.

Meproche MH 1100 : Working range 950° C to 1350° C. The most superior quality salt with high purity and practically no moisture content. Used with regenerator to clean the high salt bath. The regenerator contains deoxidising agent which reacts and converts the oxide impurities into slag thereby preventing decarburisation. Meproche 11000 is used for the heat treatment of - high speed steels.

Hot working steels used for dies, punches, mandrels, moulds etc. and high carbon high chromium type steels. It does not allow decarburisation.

Meproche Activator : Working range 640° C to 950° C. It is used to activate, cyanide for easy absorption of carbon in the steel substrate for case carburising and case hardening. Replenishment of cyanide is required to maintain its percentage at 18% to 22 %.

Meproche Regenerator : Meproche regenerator is introduced to keep the salt bath clean.

Meproche Economiser : It is used to prevent heat loss due to radiation and thereby maintain the bath temperature and reduce energy consumption and power cost.

(B) Quenching, Marqueching & Tempering Salts & Oils

Meproche MQ 540 : Working range 540° C to 700° C. Used for quenching and tempering high speed steel and hot working steels used for dies, punches, mandrels etc. after heating in MH 970 / 971. Also used for secondary hardening. When the bath becomes sluggish, and regenerator to keep the bath clean.

Meproche MQ 495 : Working range 495° C to 700° C. Specially developed salt to consume less energy. Has lower melting point. It is used for quenching and austempering.

Meproche MT 150 : Working range 150° C to 270° C. Used for tempering steels after hardening to reduce brittleness in the hardened steels and remove the internal stresses caused by the sudden cooling in the quenching bath. Jobs after cyaniding should not be quenched directly in MT 150 as it reacts violently with cyanides.

Meproche MT 220 : Working range 230° C to 350° C. This salt is very stable and melting point or working range does not change after repeated uses, therefore martempering & isothermal quenching can be carried out very efficiently. It reacts violently with cyanides

Meproche Quenching Oil : Mineral oil based with low viscosity and high oxidation stability. Compounded mineral quenching oils are widely used as they result into good proportion of hardness and toughness and give least warpage with standard steels.

Meproche Martempering Oil :
Working range 150° C to 280° C
Low viscosity jobs from case carburising by cyanides can directly be quenched in this oil. It avoids use of temporary rust preventives after quenching. Being liquid it is easy to work with.

Meproche Polymer Quenchent :
This is a synthetic quenchent. Cooling rate is higher than oil & water. Being water soluble it is easy to remove. It is inhibited and hence non corrosive.

General Specification :
Appearance Water white liquid
Specific gravity app. 1.1
Viscosity 5.4 to 6.4 CST at 100° c.
Oily consistency at RT

Advantages of using polymer quenchent :-
1) Very low to nil cracking, in spite of high cooling rate.
2) It is duly inhibited to avoid corrosion and cracking.
3) It is much easier to clean, being water soluble.
4) Meproche Polymer Quenchent does not deplete in quality with time, being antioxidant.
5) Evaporation losses are very small, hence consumption is low.

Heat Treatment Salts & Chemicals - (C) Case Hardening & Carburising Salts

Meproche S-22 : Working range 800° C to 950° C. Contains minimum 20% Sodium cyanide suitable for MS, En 1, En 1A, En33, 39, 206. 207, 351, 363 etc. Used for carburising and case hardening of low carbon steels. This salt is also preferred for selective carburising of the steel by copper plating with low percantage of (8 TO 10%) cyanide hence it can be used for carburising alloy case hardening steels prior to martempering in MT 150 to MT 220.

Meproche S-55 : Working range 760° C to 950° C. Operated at minimum 50% sodium cyanide. This salt is used for carburising of mild steel and alloy case hardening steel for higher case depths upto 2.5 mm and also for further hardening. For higher temperature upto 990° C used for economiser. Used for replenishment of the s-22 bath to make of uneven consumption of cyanide vis-a-vis-activator. The carburising rate in both the above baths is rapid and without any increase in brittleness.
